SCALES of MANUFACTURE
This is the way that items are manufactured in industry.
ONE-OFF PRODUCTION (JOBBING)
· When you are making a single product, every item is produced individually, to meet the customers needs.
· Examples include Wedding Stationary, New independent shop’s POS promotion
· Much more expensive than mass/batch manufacture as its highly skilled & specialist work

BATCH PRODUCTION
· Making a set number of the same production a production line.
· The line is usually used for more than one product e.g. Different coloured pieces of packaging produced in small numbers (run of 500 items).

MASS MANUFACTURE
· Non-stop production of a product.
· The factory operates 24 hours a day and work is largely done by machines & robots.
· Very cheap for making hundreds of thousands of the same products, for example cornflake boxes.
JIT (Just In Time) MANUFACTURE
· Items are not kept in stock in a warehouse. They are manufactured as they are ordered.
· This means less money is spent on storage of finished items, saving the company money
· It can mean that unless factories have a quick turn around of orders, customers need to wait longer for their order to be sent out.
